Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday, 8 November. These hundred wishes are grouped by who they're for, in English, Hindi and Roman Hindi, so you can copy one, change one word and send it. If you'd like your wish to arrive with photos and memories attached, our guide to Diwali gifts shows how to send a personal Diwali page that opens on any phone, in India or abroad.
How to make a Diwali wish sound like you
Most Diwali wishes arrive as forwarded images, and most get a thumbs-up and nothing more. The ones people reply to share three habits.
- Name the person. "Happy Diwali, Ma" lands differently from "Happy Diwali to you and your family".
- Add one real detail. The kaju katli tin, the diyas on the balcony, the cousin who always burns the first rocket. One detail turns a greeting into a memory.
- Send it yourself. A typed message, a voice note or a short video beats a forwarded graphic every time, even if the words are simpler.
Diwali 2026 dates in India
- Dhanteras: Friday, 6 November
- Choti Diwali (Naraka Chaturdashi): Saturday, 7 November
- Diwali and Lakshmi Puja: Sunday, 8 November
- Govardhan Puja: Monday, 9 November
- Bhai Dooj: Wednesday, 11 November
Puja timings vary by city. Families outside India sometimes follow a calendar calculated for their own country, so a day can shift. Our Bhai Dooj gifts page explains why that happens with the last day of the festival.

A few last tips before you send
- Time it. Send family wishes on Diwali morning, so they frame the day. For someone abroad, go by their time zone, not yours.
- Pick one channel. A personal WhatsApp message is better than the same text on four apps.
- Add a voice note to the important ones. Parents and grandparents often love hearing it more than reading it.
- Keep work wishes separate. Send them on the last working day before Diwali, not at midnight on the day.
Siblings also have their own day at the end of the festival. If you're writing to a brother or sister, our Bhai Dooj messages for brother and sister has lines written for that day.
For the people who matter most, you can put your wish inside a private Diwali page with your photos, a letter and a small surprise at the end. It opens in any phone browser with no app, and you can see the full preview before you send it. Start from our Diwali gifts page or try a time capsule that stays locked until Diwali morning.

FAQ
When is Diwali 2026?
The main Diwali night, with Lakshmi Puja, is Sunday, 8 November 2026. The five days run from Dhanteras on Friday, 6 November to Bhai Dooj, which most Indian panchangs place on Wednesday, 11 November. Exact puja timings change by city, so check a local panchang for yours.
What is a good Diwali wish for family?
One line of blessing and one real detail. The blessing can be traditional, like wishing them light, health and prosperity. The detail is what makes it yours: the rangoli your mother draws every year, the sweets your father buys too many of, the night you all burst crackers on the terrace. Pick a line below and add one thing only your family would recognise.
How should I wish my boss or clients on Diwali?
Keep it warm, short and free of in-jokes. Thank them for the year, wish them and their family well, and leave out anything about money or targets. A personal note by email or WhatsApp reads better than a forwarded image.
Should I send Diwali wishes in Hindi or English?
Use the language you'd speak to that person. Many families mix both, so a Hindi blessing with an English line underneath is completely normal. If you're unsure, the Roman Hindi lines below are easy to read on any phone.
Send your Diwali wish with your photos inside
Put your message in a private gift page with family photos and memories. It opens on any phone on Diwali morning, wherever they live.
